For years, the Johnson family had enjoyed their charming home in Lebanon, New Hampshire. It had been passed down for generations, carrying a lifetime of memories. But over time, something unsettling began to happen—the floors on the main level were no longer level. They creaked and sagged underfoot, and doors that once swung open with ease now stuck stubbornly in their frames.
Concerned about the worsening condition of their home, the Johnsons reached out to Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems for help. When our team arrived, we carefully examined the basement, uncovering the root of the problem. The wooden support beams, weakened by years of shifting soil and natural deterioration, could no longer bear the house's weight. If left unaddressed, the home's structural integrity would continue to decline.
Understanding the situation's urgency, our team proposed a permanent solution—the SmartJack Support System. The Johnsons were relieved to hear that not only would this system stabilize their home, but it would also allow for minor adjustments over time if needed. With their trust in our expertise, we got to work.
First, we carefully excavated the weak soil beneath the basement to create a stable foundation for the SmartJacks. We then poured concrete footings to provide a solid base of support. Once the footings were set, we installed high-strength, galvanized steel SmartJack posts beneath the main support beam. We carefully adjusted the SmartJacks to lift the sagging floors back into place.
As we made the final adjustments, the transformation was immediate. The once-sloping floors were now level, doors, and windows operated smoothly again, and the eerie creaks that had haunted the home for years had vanished. The Johnsons couldn’t believe the difference. More importantly, they now had peace of mind knowing their beloved family home was secure for generations.
With a heartfelt handshake and a sigh of relief, the Johnsons thanked our team for restoring their home’s foundation and their confidence in its future. If you’re facing similar foundation concerns, trust Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems to provide the solution you need—because every home deserves a strong foundation.

Alexei woke up one morning to find that her finished basement had undergone some water damage. This ruined the carpet and left other items damp. She didn’t want to replace the carpet, because the same damages could happen again. She figured there must be something that could better protect her basement floor. After doing some research online, she found the solution. She quickly reached out to Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems for help.
Alexei checked out the Northern Basement Systems’ website and found the ThermalDry floor tiles. These tiles are designed specifically for basements. They are warm, comfortable and stylish. Each tile is designed to sit on raised, plastic pegs, forming a small airspace underneath. In this airspace, water vapor circulates and dries out. This causes the tile to be eight to ten degrees warmer than the concrete below it. The tile is made from inorganic material; this will ensure that plumbing leaks or floods won’t damage it. The experts from Northern Basement Systems got right to work knowing that this was the right fit for Alexei’s finished basement.
Now Alexei can rest easily knowing that her finished basement won’t be susceptible to a little water damage. With the help of ThermalDry Tiles, Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems can turn any moldy, rotten, foul-smelling basement floor into a warm, beautiful one.
Joe and Rosie S. attended the HomeLife Show in Hanover. Thinking about the damp crawl space beneath their Lebanon home, the NH homeowners decided to talk with a representative from Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems after hearing an expert talk about the dangers of a damp, unsecured crawl space because and how it can affect the rest of the home. The representative discussed cost-effective options to seal their crawl space and create a healthier environment. Joe and Rosie thought that the company would be a good fit for the job and set up an appointment with specialist Michael.
Expert Michael came out for the inspection and provided a free, no-obligation estimate for the suggested repairs. The couple was lucky – as of yet, they had no major structural or water damage problems. Michael indicated that the foreman install a CleanSpace liner to encapsulate the space to keep out moisture and water. CleanSpace crawl space encapsulation provides a barrier between the crawl space floor and the earth.
Joe and Rosie are thrilled that their crawl space is now clean and dry, and they also have extra storage space and have added value to their home in the process.
