A homeowner in Montgomery, Vermont reached out to Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems regarding their crawl space. They were interested in weatherizing, but also concerned with the possibilities of what to do if they encapsulated the crawl space and a water pipe broke. This was an easy task for the pros at Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems.
First Matt's team would install a CleanSpace Encapsulation System. On the floor there will be drainage matting laid down with two SmartDrains and then completely covered in CleanSpace. The SmartDrains, paired with drainage matting will provide a system to protect the crawlspace incase of a pipe break, or leak. If there ever was a water issue it would channel through the drainage matting and drain to the SmartDrains, which are armed with water alarms. After the CrawlSpace Encapsulation System is installed Closed-cell Polyurethane Spray Foam insulation is applied to the entire rim-joist and partly down the walls. This will put the finishing touches to the crawl space weatherization, providing an excellent R-value of 6-7 per inch.

Gutters are supposed to protect the home against rainfall. But for Jason and Lisa C. of Saint Albans, water leaving the gutter downspout actually compounded their basement’s leakage problems. Jason and Lisa typed “basement waterproofers” into Google and found Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems. After browsing the website, the couple decided this looked like a company they could trust to fix their wet basement problem. They set up an appointment for a free estimate and inspection with waterproofing expert Justin Lanfranconi.
Justin informed the couple of the trouble their gutters were causing, and advised them to incorporate a solution with a brand new waterproofing system. Northern Basements team came out to complete the repairs. They installed a SuperSump sump pump, discharge lines with an IceGuard anti-freeze device and a LawnScape drainage outlet. Together these products remove water and carry it a safe distance away from the home. The IceGuard ensures that frozen pipes will not be detrimental to the system. To fix the gutter issue, the team attached a RainChute downspout extension. This way, instead of dumping water right next to the house, saturating the ground and allowing water into the basement, gutter water would be discharged at a safe distance.
Jason and Lisa were thankful that the team of experts identified the water sources and solved their problems with the new system.
Greg and Judy W.’s Saint Albans, VT home showed signs of structural disrepair in two places. Sagging support beams and floor joists hung from the ceiling on one side of the basement, and on the other, a concrete wall was bowed and crumbling. Since Greg and Judy could see these issues, they must be serious. They found Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems online and decided to contact them to set up an appointment. Foundation expert Michael Doherty conducted a free inspection of the home and communicated his findings.
Foreman Neil Sayers and his team installed several products to give Greg’s basement the support it needed. They used four steel Smart Jacks to reinforce the drooping support beams and floor joists. To fix the wall, they used ShotCrete, which effectively sprays concrete through a hose at high velocity instead of placing it into a form, and is very handy for an upright surface like a wall. They also attached three PowerBrace wall supports to counteract the inward pressure and help straighten the wall over time.
Greg and Judy were glad for a solution to their problem, and they had a friendly team of experts around to fix it properly! Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems is, in their eyes, the go-to company for structural issues in the home. And while they hope they are all set for now, they can trust the team again in the future if need be!
Pete W. was combating a leaky basement in his Saint Albans, VT home. While attending a local home show, Pete discussed his problem with several members of the Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems family. Their knowledge and demeanor impressed Pete and scheduled a free inspection of his home with waterproofing expert Justin Lanfranconi.
Justin recommended several products to solve Pete’s water issues. After Pete agreed, Northen Basements team installed an entire waterproofing system. Lateral pipes and discharge lines transport water, and a SuperSump sump pump removes the water. IceGuard protection stops frozen pipes from flooding, so a Vermont winter won’t reverse Pete’s repairs.
Pete is glad he attended the home show and found a waterproofing company that he can trust.
Meredith P. found herself continuously using a shopvac to eliminate water that was seeping into her basement. Growing tired of repeatedly sucking the water out, she figured there must be someone who could help. After doing some research she found Matt Clark’s Northern Basement Systems.
After accessing the situation, Matt Clark’s experts installed a SuperSump pump system with a cast iron pump, a liner, an airtight lid with airtight floor drain, a CleanPump Stand, and a WaterWatch alarm system. A discharge line was installed up the wall of the foundation allowing the water to exit. With the basement well-equipped, the final touch was to install a Sanidry XP Basement Air System to keep the basement’s humidity level low.
After converging with Meredith P., her basement is safe and dry. No longer will she have to shopvac her basement to keep it dry.
A home in Swanton, Vermont was in need of some help from our team of experts. The home would get water in the basement when there was a hard rain or a lot of snow melting. It got to the point where the homeowner decided, to be safe, they would keep their refrigerator on a pallet. Giving it 3-4 inches of clearance from the water. The water also made it so the children of the home had to keep all their toys off the floor or be in danger of losing them to water damage. One of Matt's top System Design Specialist came to the home and accessed the situation. The specialist came up with a plan for the homeowner and our production team went to work right away executing the plan. Northern Basement Systems would install a WaterGuard sub-floor drainage system. This will collect the water before it enters the basement floor. The system will direct the water to the SuperSump Pump. The Super Sump Pump then will pump out the water and discharge it away from the home.
Our team discovered signs of water intrusion in a customer's crawl space during a free inspection in Hardwick, Vermont. The homeowners, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, were concerned about potential flooding during heavy rains.
To address this issue comprehensively, we implemented a multi-step solution tailored to their specific needs. First, we installed a robust drainage system along the perimeter of the crawl space, directing any incoming water toward a high-capacity sump pump. This proactive measure effectively prevented water accumulation during rainy seasons.
Additionally, we recommended encapsulating the crawl space with a durable vapor barrier and sealing off the area from external moisture sources. This approach created a dry, controlled environment that protected the home's structural integrity.
After completing the installation, Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems inspected the crawlspace thoroughly to ensure everything was functioning optimally. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson were impressed with our team's professionalism and expertise, and they now have peace of mind knowing that their crawl space is fortified against potential flooding and moisture-related issues for years to come.
In the heart of East Fairfield, Vermont, a community landmark faced a critical threat—sinking foundations jeopardized the integrity of a beloved home. Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems took on the challenge of preserving this home.
Upon inspection, Matt's team discovered that the home's foundation was settling due to soil consolidation. To prevent further damage and preserve the building's legacy, they devised a comprehensive plan involving the installation of push piers.
Working diligently, the crew meticulously installed the push piers beneath the foundation's compromised sections, effectively halting further settlement and restoring the structure's stability. With great care, they ensured that the museum's heritage remained intact.
The Smiths wanted to convert their basement in Montgomery Center, Vermont, into a home office but faced a significant obstacle: water intrusion during storms. Determined to make their dream office a reality, they contacted Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems to solve their water problems.
The inspection revealed that the basement's foundation had several cracks, allowing water to seep. To manage water infiltration, the team proposed installing a perimeter drainage system and a sump pump. The Smiths were excited about the plan and scheduled the installation promptly.
The crew arrived and began excavating the basement's perimeter to install the drainage system. The team then strategically placed the sump pump to ensure efficient water removal. The sump pump had two high-capacity motors and a battery backup pump to provide peace of mind during power outages.
Once the system was installed, the team restored the basement floor and cleaned it up thoroughly. The Smiths were impressed by the crew's professionalism and efficiency. They could now proceed with their office renovation without worrying about water damage.
After completing their office, the Smiths were thrilled with the result. The basement remained dry during subsequent storms, allowing them to focus on their work without distraction. They thanked Matt Clark's Northern Basement Systems for their excellent service and recommended them to friends and family.
