Stone Foundation with Dirt Floors in Cambridge, Vermont
Challenge
The Cambridge, Vermont homeowners have lived in this home for over 10 years and have gotten as much as a foot of water in their basement. The fieldstone foundation with dirt floors allow water to enter during rainfall and spring thaw. They wanted to find a solution that would keep their basement dry all the time so that they could use the space again after more than 10 years of water in their basement.
They called Northern Basement Systems provided them with a FREE estimate and site inspection to identify where the water is entering and develop a solution to eliminate their water concerns.
Solution
Our system design specialist recommended and our installation specialist installed, perforated pipe in the basement to collect water. This drainage is then paired with a SmartPump System with an UltraSump Battery Back-up pump and WaterWatch Alarm to remove water, even during power outages, tripped circuits, and pump failure. This pump system also included a discharge line with an IceGuard to protect against a frozen discharge line and a LawnScape outlet to distribute the water.
After the pump and drainage were placed, they installed a CleanSpace encapsulation system, including drainage matting and the CleanSpace Liner to prevent any water or humidity from entering the basement. Our installation specialist also installed Closed-Cell Polyurethane Spray Foam in the rim joist area to prevent and air or moisture from entering and lower heating costs. Lastly, we recommended a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier to reduce moisture that causes musty smells and mold over time. With these systems in place, the homeowners can now safely store their belongings in their basement without concern.
